A Balanced Dog Has Titles at Both Ends
**The information contained in this blog is the opinion of Wavemaker Staffords and has been comprised of shared knowledge of breed specialists and learned information we have gathered ourselves and from books (used with permissions). The purpose of this blog is for education, debate, discussion & general interest. We will discuss the Staffordshire Bull Terrier breed Standard as it is written today and we will also delve into the history of the breed as a way of comparison to how the breed has evolved, improved or digressed. Other topics will also be discussed such as puppy buying, health and exercise. We by no means are implying that our opinions are the only ones, but we express them as a way of opening up minds to further interest and understanding of the breed. THANK YOU to those friends of ours willing to share photos of your dogs on this blog for educational purposes. We are grateful to you and appreciate your generosity.
I will soon be adding illustrations drawn over some of the photos to help explain the talking points. It is best to begin this portion of the website from the bottom up, reading the earlier entries first and moving forward to the present. We will be adding entries on a weekly basis.

Discussing the Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Balance
•Does any one feature stand out?
•ie - “What a head on that one” or “what full shoulders on this one”
•Does the animal have a ‘sloppy’ look?
•ie - are there wrinkles, loose skin, fleshy or spongy in muzzle, have flews, coarseness, heavy in bone, too light in bone, more leg than body or short leg on heavy body?
•Does the animal look short, dwarfed, squatty or too long in back or is it taller than it is long?
None of the above items make a balanced Stafford!
Breed Type
•When you look at the animal does it say “Staffordshire Bull terrier”
•Do you instead think -
•“Bulldog” or “Terrier”
•If the animal were to come into your rescue program would you have to get a second opinion identifying it as a purebred Stafford?
Our Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed Standard serves as the blueprint for our breeds future and is not, though quite vague in part, impossible to understand once broken down and read thoroughly.
