Play nice, we share.
As always, any pup we sell is to come back to us if for any reason you must give up ownership of the dog. This means for any reason, at any age, no questions asked. We want you to be happy with your pet, but we have the health, happiness & security of the puppy in mind. We are sure you understand that we are responsible for every puppy we produce for its entire life. We will also be there for you to answer any questions and/or offer support and mentoring should you wish.
The price for health tested (meaning they can prove to you that the sire and dam and resulting litter is clear and normal of L2-HGA, HC & PHPV) purebred Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppies in this country range from $1500-3000. There is no reason to pay more. A breeder cannot tell you if a puppy is guaranteed show quality at 8 weeks old. If there is an obvious visual or structural fault that is apparent at that age they will sell the pup as a pet quality puppy with a spay/neuter contract. This in no way makes that puppy any less of a worthy pet, it only means it should not be bred from so therefore cannot be shown in the conformation ring. Otherwise they have no crystal ball and if a breeder guarantees your puppy is going to be a Champion - dont believe it. Roughly 1/3 pups in a litter should be shown if that. Rarely entire litters should be shown. Certainly a pup with a disqualifying fault (black & tan pointed or liver in Staffords) should never be sold as a show prospect but certainly would make an excellent pet not to be bred from. It still should be health tested and come from health tested parents. PLEASE ask to see proof!
IMPORTANT - Please read

We rarely have puppies available and always have a wait list but are happy to refer you to reputable breeders who health test
Are you kennel blind to the faults of your dogs or can you honestly state your own dogs faults and virtues and breed or not breed accordingly? We feel strongly that you should be able to honestly asses your dogs - both positive features AND negative features so that you can aim to improve upon the breed with any mating. Even if you cannot ‘see’ any faults in your Staffords - others can and the offspring will surely point it out!
We know of some breeders who do not pay any attention to things such as allowing their stud dog over untested bitches, or allowing him over bitches with such poor dentition that she should not be bred from at all. Some people refuse to admit faults and are blind to poor construction so they end up ‘doubling up’ on these faults thus producing the same.
We have heard things like - our bitch is so great that we hope for duplicate clones of her by breeding her - well, obviously our answer was not to allow the use of our stud over this bitch b/c any fault appearing in the progeny would be directed to him whether or not he was at fault.
*A word about poor dentition - inverted canines are not simply structural faults - it can mean painful mouth issues for the dog. The tips of the lower canines sit inside the upper canines and can reach the upper palette, sometimes in serious cases can puncture the roof of the mouth leading to pain, infection and worse. The tips can be filed off or the teeth can be removed in serious cases. This is an important thing to recognize for the comfort of the dog and should be taken into serious consideration when making breeding choices.
Another thing to remember, Mother Nature has the last word! You can study pedigrees, genetics, photos, structure, faults and virtues all day long - but in the end it’s a crap shoot really. Sometimes you never know when something will pop up seemingly out of nowhere. Of course it is our thinking that it does come from somewhere - most likely was there all along yet some breeder along the way ‘chose not to see it’ and so it was perpetuated along until it showed up once more. We were very surprised to get blue puppies in a litter from a brindle to a black brindle - but it happens and it is within the breed standard, not ‘rare’.
So you want to be a breeder? Are you sure?
Check out these true stories before you decide to breed:
Breeding puppies is not for everyone
Should you breed?
-Do your Staffords posses quality traits you feel should be passed on, or improved upon to future generations?
-Can you afford to care for the dam and her puppies before, during and after the breeding process?
-Are both the dam and sire health tested for L2-HGA, HC and more and proven clear and normal?
-Do you have good quality responsible homes lined up for all the puppies prior to the breeding taking place?
-Are you willing to take back any or all of the pups in the resulting litter should you need to?
-Do you have the funds necessary should something come up such as emergency C section or worse?
Should you NOT breed?
-Are you breeding just so ‘your kids can experience the miracle of birth”?
-Are you breeding because someone told you you have a good dog and you should breed it?
-Are you just throwing dogs together to make puppies b/c they are cute and you want to sell puppies?
-Are you breeding and selling for high dollars what you are calling ‘rare’ colors such as Black and Tan, Blues, TriColors or colors that sound more like flavors: Champagne, Cola, Cream, Chocolate...
REMEMBER The pattern referred to as Black & Tan doesnt necessarily have to be Black and Tan colors. If it is marked with points like the way a Rottie or Doberman is - no matter if it is Black with brindle points, red with fawn points or black with tan points - it is still a BLACK & TAN. This name refers to the genetic pattern, rather than a color. TriColored Staffords are also patterned genetically as B&T. (Tri means black, tan and white). Liver refers to a dilute so the dog doesnt need to be actual liver colored but usually is. If the dog does not have a black nose it is considered to be a dilute - a liver. Please do not fall for anyone selling these as ‘rare’ or anyone asking for more money b/c of these traits, colors & patterns.
More detail about this in the ‘COLOR” entry of the DISCUSSION section.
We DO NOT ship any puppies nor do we sell any puppies sight unseen. You must be present to pick up your puppy in person and we prefer that we meet you in person over many months prior to selling you a puppy. We also do home checks and spend time getting to know people before deciding if we are a good match. Please do not be offended if we turn you down. We may be able to send you in another direction to another responsible breeder or find you a great rehome/rescue. Also - please don’t say ‘staffy’ these are Staffordshire Bull Terriers. If you cannot say the entire name at least please respectfully call them Staffords.
Please read the pages on PUPPY BUYER ETIQUETTE and also QUESTIONS TO ASK BREEDERS to assist you in determining the right breeder for you. Stop looking for a puppy; look for a BREEDER. Make a personal connection with a breeder you feel shares your top criteria, and then wait for a puppy from them.
Our puppies are raised with Jane Killion’s Puppy Culture
PLEASE READ THIS PAGE IN ITS ENTIRETY PRIOR TO SENDING US AN EMAIL ABOUT PURCHASING A PUPPY FROM US
Precedence will be given to potential new owners who are willing to purchase & participate in Puppy Culture, raw feed and naturally rear him/her, no/low vaccination schedules. We prefer companion homes so that the focus is on quality of life with your well loved and spoiled pet but we support participation in AKC performance events as long as its for fun and not the main reason for purchasing one of our dogs.
We also prefer non breeder homes with smaller pet populations in them. We offer lifetime support and guidance. You become family when you own a Wavemaker Stafford!
